It was great to read some reactions to the launch of this website connected blog. It was also great to get that instant gratification from seeing the views and reposts of my LinkedIn post grow (>2,000 views in the last 24 hrs) ;-). I was talking with friends last night about where we are finding joy and had to admit this website is it….sad but true!
I’m also excited as we near the release of a new set of pages. We have started the process of preparing images for release in December…this for me is most exciting. Our process here is also changing in a good way. In the past it was mostly Sam and I making final decisions, but now we are drawing Chris into the conversation. I know from the comments we have already made on the google doc holding the new images this will be an interesting debate….or maybe I should say dialogue! One of the conversations we will have if there is time is about this binary: debate versus dialogue. Maybe I can draw Chris and Aftab into a dialogue about a set of images for dialogue a key component to the application of systems thinking?
This reminds me, I’ve been thinking about the representation of binaries (eg Paradigm Shifts). I’ve always thought it is helpful to compare and contrast ideas, but not to suggest either/or thinking. Some people’s reactions to the images are to argue that binaries don’t exist as binaries. Others appreciate the clarity a binary description can bring (eg Transactional to Relational). I’m not sure whether there is anything to do about this, but worth thinking about people’s reactions.
