Yesterday I had had time to pause for some reflection.  It started with this new entry into my Reconciliation Journal which reminded me of a conversation I had a while ago with my friends and colleagues at IDEA Diabetes.  As I was testing the idea that some of the images in the website might be useful frameworks for evaluation of one of their projects, we ended up in a conversation about the language on the original Adaptive Cycle image and how problematic it is.  It is long past time to do something about this.

As I explore with multiple people the idea of an Indigenous Knowledge mini-collection I am growing more comfortable with following different paths and moving forward in a respectful way.  In this case I decided to turn to some “Deep Research” from NotebookLM on frameworks for Indigenous knowledge.  I did this search some time ago, early in my process for starting the mini-collection.  Yesterday, I used this collection of papers to give me suggestions for a revised version of the cycle that is more consistent with Indigenous ways of knowing.  It gave me the new lists added in below.

Some of these suggestions seem great but others I am not so sure of.  I will definitely need to refine these lists in dialogue with real people. I look forward to learning more and figuring out where to go on this particular journey.  I think I’ll start with the folks who made me realize the problem with this image.
